  1. Written notice from a company or authority
  2. A dated timeline of events
  3. Relevant messages, email, meeting notes, or work records

It is all right if you do not have these yet. Start with a conversation.

Organize a timeline
  1. STEP 1Initial consultation and facts

Review the notice, your role, and deadlines. Arrange events by date and separate what you remember from what you infer.

  2. STEP 2Procedure and risk assessment

Consider how an internal investigation and possible criminal or civil proceedings interact; identify relevant facts and documents.

  3. STEP 3Preparation and representation

Prepare for an interview. If police or prosecutors are involved, meet before questioning and attend with counsel.

  4. STEP 4After a decision

Review the decision and procedure; consider a written request for review (generally within 30 days and once only) or other remedies.
